Flat Top, Wide Circular Pressing Surface

The CWB 401B Flat Top

The CWB 401B has a wide, flat pressing surface, unlike the raised dome of the CWB 401. Refer to the side photo to see the height difference between the button top and its rim.

Build a Controller with an Arcade Feel

Bishi Bashi · pop'n music · Come On Baby are examples of games for which custom controllers may use large buttons like this one.

Game titles are examples of intended applications. Button dimensions and mounting methods vary by machine. Before replacing an existing button, check the mounting cutout, surrounding clearance, internal space, and wiring.

Compare the Size with the CWB 405

The elongated rectangular CWB 405 and the wide, round CWB 401B differ in size and pressing surface shape.

401B

The shapes above illustrate the relative proportions of the products' external dimensions. Their on-screen sizes are not actual sizes.

CWB 405 32 × 50 mm · Rectangular
CWB 401B Ø98 mm outer diameter · Flat, round top

Ø98 mm is the product's outer diameter. It is not the pressing surface diameter or mounting hole diameter. Check the CWB 401B drawing below before cutting your panel.

CWB 401B Dimension Drawing

Check the outer diameter, top profile, and lower body shape. All drawing dimensions are in mm. The top outer diameter is Ø98 mm.

07 · CWB 401B

Preinstalled 200 g Spring for Bishi Bashi Applications

Inside the button, a 200 g spring for Bishi Bashi applicationsis preinstalled.

Check that the button presses smoothly and returns to its original position without catching. Surrounding clearance, panel mounting, and holder attachment can affect the feel of operation.

Check Surrounding Clearance

Allow enough room to prevent the pressing surface from interfering with other buttons or panel structures.

Check the Holder Attachment

Insert the holder in the direction shown, then rotate to lock. Check the alignment of the white button actuator and the switch actuator.

Holder Assembly for First-Time Installation

Correct holder orientation and secure attachment help transfer the button's motion to the switch. Review the GIF and step-by-step photos first.

Key Steps: Insert at an Angle → Rotate to Lock

Position the holder at an angle, insert it, then rotate to lock it in place. Do not force it straight in with the white button actuator and the switch's red pin aligned from the start.

Shared holder assembly GIF using a CWB 405: insert at an angle, then rotate to lock

01. Insert at an Angle

Angle the holder so the white actuator under the button and the switch's red pin are not directly aligned. Check the engagement position, then push the holder inward.

02. Rotate to Lock

Rotate the holder to lock it with the white actuator directly above the red pin. Pressing the button should operate the switch correctly.

03. Check Retention and Return

Before connecting the wiring, check that the holder stays secure and the button presses and returns smoothly without catching.

Shared holder assembly example: insertion at an angle

Keep the holder angled during insertion

Shared holder assembly example: actuator and pin aligned after rotation

Align the actuator and pin after locking

Do not confuse this with the straight-in insertion method used by the Sanwa OBSA series. If the holder does not fit easily, recheck its orientation and any obstruction. Do not force it or twist it by the terminals. Disconnect power before assembly or wiring.

Microswitch Contact Bounce

Please distinguish normal contact switch behavior from persistent input problems during use.

Contact Switch Characteristics

Microswitch contacts may briefly make and break repeatedly during switching, a behavior called contact bounce or chattering. This can vary with operating speed, load, and contact condition.

Check Input Behavior in Your Game

Whether brief contact changes register as duplicate inputs also depends on input processing, such as the controller board's debounce settings. Check the holder attachment and wiring as well.

Persistent input errors should not automatically be treated as normal. If duplicate inputs, missed inputs, or interruptions while holding the button persist, check holder alignment and terminal contact. If the problem continues after correct installation, contact us through eBay messages with details of when it occurs.

Reference: OMRON Chattering FAQ · FAQE20041. This explains general contact switch principles. The microswitch supplied with this product is made by Gersung.
